DEFINITION
Responsible for the safety and well-being of all participants in the pool
area, Lifeguards with the City of Brighton minimize hazardous situations by
enforcing pool rules, identifying potential hazards before they arise and
maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the Aquatics facilities. This
position must work well in group settings and with the public, while providing
excellent, respectful customer service which supports the City of Brighton's
mission and values.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works under the supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator(s), Assistant Pool
Manager(s) and Head Lifeguard. Lifeguards do not supervise other employees.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Protects the safety and well-being of each person using the Brighton Aquatic
facilities. No other duty shall jeopardize this primary responsibility.
Promptly enforces all rules and regulations.
Provides Water Rescues, CPR and First Aid in emergency situations.
Maintains all necessary certifications, including American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Bloodborne Pathogens.
Performs cleaning tasks and general pool maintenance under the supervision of the Head Lifeguard.
Attends mandatory in-service training and staff meetings.
Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or have the
ability to obtain certification before date of hire. Must pass pre-employment
practical skills test as well as a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility
to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while
assisting children and adults for extended periods of time. The candidate
must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between
different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
