Position Overview

The Lab Technician reports to the manager of Technical Service Hot Melt Portugal and, under guidance, performs tests, trials, and records related to product development, new raw material evaluation, and application testing.

Additionally, the role may include calibrating and verifying department equipment, supporting customer (internal and external) technical service testing when needed, and providing technical assistance to production.

Primary duties

  • Prepare and manage laboratory samples for testing and development.
  • Conduct tests and trials for new products, improvements, and raw material evaluation, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Prepare and supply samples for customer testing purposes.
  • Analyze competitor products when required.
  • Calibrate and verify laboratory equipment, maintaining proper documentation.
  • Perform additional analyses such as physical/chemical characterization and product stability studies when needed.
  • Provide technical support to Technical Service, Quality, and Production teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
  • Manage laboratory supplies, documentation, sample archiving, and equipment maintenance needs.
  • Support and maintain R&D documentation and contribute to the Integrated Management System in line with company policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Academic qualifications: high school (12th grade) in a scientific field;
  • In the case of lower education than mentioned, experience in the role, or in a similar role, exceeding two years.
  • Technical-professional training in laboratory functions.
  • Oral and written fluency in English.
  • Computer skills from a user perspective in word processing (e.g., MS Word) and spreadsheets (e.g., MS Excel).

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of adhesive lab testing procedures
  • Able to work without continuous supervision
