Newscast Director

WKEF is looking for its next Morning Newscast Director. This position plays a key role in the daily execution of live broadcast news operations. This position is also responsible for directing and coding multiple live newscasts, including approximately six hours of live morning news programming, while providing technical leadership and operational support to the news production team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and code multiple live newscasts using Ross OverDrive and SAGA automation systems.
- Lead and coordinate the technical execution of daily news operations in collaboration with producers, directors, and production staff.
- Assist in directing and producing approximately six hours of live morning news programming.
- Be available to assist with shift coverage when operational needs arise.
- Maintain effective communication among all crew members to ensure smooth execution of live broadcasts and delivery of a high-quality on-air product.
- Partner with Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve control room, automation, and production equipment issues.
- Set up, maintain, and monitor studio lighting to ensure consistent broadcast quality.
- Ensure studio equipment, batteries, and production areas are organized, operational, and clean at the beginning of each shift.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to newsroom production workflows and technical operations.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven live news environment.
- Experience with broadcast automation systems and production control room operations.
- Knowledge of studio lighting, teleprompting systems, and live production workflows.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions during breaking news and severe weather coverage.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when news coverage demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Ross OverDrive automation systems.
- Experience with SAGA news production systems.
- Knowledge of Ross Caprica newsroom production software.
- Familiarity with broadcast troubleshooting and collaboration with engineering teams.
