Veterinary Surgical Technician

Are you an experienced Veterinary Technician with surgical and anesthesia expertise looking to grow in a specialty hospital setting? Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC) Knoxville is seeking a skilled Veterinary Surgical Technician to support our Surgery Department.

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside board-certified surgeons and emergency clinicians , refine advanced skills, and manage complex surgical cases in a fast-paced, high-level veterinary environment.

Schedule

  • Monday – Thursday (Day Shift)
  • Rotating on-call weekends (once fully trained)

Key Responsibilities:

Anesthesia & Surgical Support

  • Administer and monitor anesthesia for soft tissue, orthopedic, and emergency surgeries
  • Perform anesthetic calculations and develop patient-specific protocols
  • Monitor ECG, blood pressure, SpO₂, ETCO₂, and anesthetic gases
  • Operate ventilators and advanced monitoring equipment
  • Surgical Assistance
  • Prepare patients (IV catheter placement, sterile prep, positioning)
  • Maintain sterile technique and assist during surgery
  • Support advanced and specialty procedures

Perioperative & Critical Care

  • Monitor recovery and respond to anesthetic complications
  • Assist in stabilization of emergency surgical patients

Documentation & Teamwork

  • Maintain accurate anesthesia and surgical records
  • Collaborate with surgeons, ER doctors, and technicians
  • Participate in ongoing training and skill development

Here is What You Will Bring to the Position:

  • Completion of a two-year or four-year American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program from a community college, college, or university
  • License certification varies by state
  • Externship experience
