Under the supervision of the Dental Hygiene Supervisor and Clinical Manager, the Assistant Dental Hygiene Supervisor is to assist the Dental Hygiene Supervisor in managing the provision of dental care support services at the Dental Center through the supervision of all dental hygienists. Additional functions will include, but not be limited to: data entry in the electronic dental record, reports, and administrative tasks related to patient care and standard operations. Assistant Dental Hygiene Supervisor is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Dental Center and the Funds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, coaching, and performance management for clinical staff, as appropriate.

Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor with maintaining dental hygienist credentialing records, including licensure, CPR certification, anesthesia permits, required trainings, and other applicable certifications.

Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor with maintaining high-quality standards care through chart reviews, chairside observations, and quality assurance activities.

Assists in evaluating staff performance, identifying training and development opportunities, and communicating performance concerns or corrective action recommendations to the Dental Hygiene Supervisor, as appropriate.

Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor with fostering a patient-centered environment and promoting a positive, respectful, and professional workplace for all staff clinical team members.

Communicates all relevant information affecting patient care or impacting operations to Dental Hygiene Supervisor, Clinical Manager, and other supervisors/managers, as necessary.

Performs N95 respirator fit testing for staff, as required, and maintains related documentation and records.

Trains designated management staff on fit-testing procedures and documentation requirements.

Works collaboratively with the Dental Hygiene Supervisor, Clinical Manager, and providers to support clinical operations and ensure quality patient care.

Provides direct patient care approximately 10% of the time, as needed.

Serves as the clinical lead for daily operations, including opening and closing the Dental Center, as assigned.

Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor in evaluating, developing, and implementing oral health initiatives and identifying opportunities for operational improvement within the Dental Center.

Assists the Dental Hygiene Supervisor in demonstrating and educating staff, Health Department personnel, and the general public, regarding preventive dental methods, procedures, and best practices.

Monitors and manages the hygiene schedule to ensure accuracy and operational efficiency.

Monitors compliance with infection prevention and control protocols throughout the Dental Center.

Assists in coordinating workflow and ensuring staff understand assigned responsibilities and delegated tasks.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Dental Hygiene Supervisor, Clinical Manager, or other members of the Dental Management Team.
Qualifications (Competencies):

- Registered Dental Hygienist licensed to practice in the State of New York with a minimum of three (3) years experience managing dental support services;

Three (3) years of supervisory experience with a large dental staff preferred;

Considerable knowledge of dental hygiene principles, practices, and techniques;

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; and
-
Proficiency in EDR.
