DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist licensees with the creation of accounts and account maintenance on the MIRCS licensing Portal.
- Monitor and maintain MIRCS serial number registry.
- Prepare and review incoming non-resident firearms license applications.
- Schedule and complete in-person interviews for non-resident firearms license applications.
- Perform criminal record checks.
- Conduct searches of all appropriate databases for firearm license or transaction information in response to requests from law enforcement agencies and public citizens.
- Review criminal record checks of licenses for conformance to state and federal laws.
- Perform related duties such as data entry; typing material; operating electronic data systems and applications containing various records and files; and assuring accuracy.
- Assist law enforcement agencies and the public by providing information about firearms licensing and firearms law in Massachusetts.
- Provide support of the Massachusetts Instant Record Check System (MIRCS) to local law enforcement agencies and firearms dealers.
- Review and activation of MIRCS licenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of the Firearms Records Bureau.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly to individuals and groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral or written form.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to detail.
- Ability to gather information, analyze data collected, draw and present conclusions in oral or written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
- Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
