ROLE OVERVIEW

In Asia Pacific, selling online for major international companies is even more complex than in Europe and the US. Brands deal with multiple, constantly changing e-commerce platforms, several business models, and numerous partners to get their products into the hands of end consumers — leaving them overwhelmed with fragmented data sources and reports when trying to understand sales performance.

Our platform solves this by automating the collection and unification of all relevant data points, enabling the world's largest companies to access their data without manual effort and analyse it in depth.

At the heart of the platform is a proprietary technology stack comprising Python-based microservices for data collection at scale, a unified data model that normalises every source into a consistent schema, distributed client- specific data warehouses, and a lightweight front-end for standard visualisation.

The Tech Lead owns the technical direction and integrity of this platform. This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role responsible for the architecture, scalability, and reliability of the data collection, unification, and routing systems that the business depends on. The role ensures the technology remains the most complete, scalable, and advanced of its kind in Asia Pacific while scaling to support the requirements of the world's largest companies.

The Tech Lead leads and mentors the engineering team, setting technical standards, ways of working, and delivery culture across the function. The priority of this role is to oversee table and schema design to maintain a flexible, future-proof unified data model, optimise the collection pipeline so data is processed quickly and reliably at scale, and make sound long-term architectural decisions in a fast-moving start-up environment.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring deep back-end engineering expertise, strong system design judgement, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decisions across the business.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the technical architecture and long-term technical roadmap of the platform, making scalable design decisions across data collection, processing, storage, and serving.

• Lead, coach, and mentor the engineering team by setting clear technical standards, code quality expectations, and review practices, while fostering a high-accountability delivery culture in a fast-paced environment.

• Oversee table and schema design for the unified data model, maintaining flexibility and ensuring future scalability as new data types, platforms, and sources are added. Own the central data model that powers cross-platform analysis and ensures clients can extract meaningful insights regardless of source discrepancies.

• Optimise data collection at scale using Python-based microservices, Airflow-based frameworks, and multithreaded extraction, tuning queue management to minimise overhead and ensure fast, reliable processing.

• Own database management and data routing, including relational schema planning for high-volume inserts and queries, and routing processed data to client-specific data warehouses that provide customers with full control and ownership while meeting data privacy and sovereignty requirements.

• Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and work cross-functionally to influence decision-making across departments, acting as the bridge between business requirements and technical capabilities.

• Apply strategic thinking and problem-solving to long-term technical solutions, adapting to rapidly changing priorities and ensuring the platform remains the most complete, scalable, and advanced solution of its kind in Asia Pacific.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

1. Platform Reliability & Data Freshness

• Measure: Uptime of the data collection and serving pipeline, and timeliness of data delivered to client warehouses.

• Target: 99.5%+ pipeline uptime with data delivered within agreed SLAs.

2. Delivery & Scalability

• Measure: On-time delivery of the technical roadmap and the platform's ability to onboard new data sources and clients without requiring re-architecture.

• Target: Achievement of quarterly roadmap milestones and scaling objectives.

3. Team Health & Technical Quality

• Measure: Code quality, system maintainability, and engineering team development.

• Target: Reduced incident rates, improved review standards, and continued growth and retention of the engineering team.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Equivalent practical experience and a strong engineering track record will be considered in place of formal qualifications.

• Certifications in cloud or data engineering (e.g., AWS) are an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in back-end development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentorship role.

• Proven ability to lead and mentor a technical team in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated experience designing and scaling distributed, data-intensive systems in production.

• Hands-on experience with Python, Airflow, PostgreSQL, FastAPI, Celery/RabbitMQ, Redis, and AWS in production environments.

• Previous experience in a dynamic start-up environment with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities is highly preferred.

Technical Competencies / Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python and PostgreSQL with deep expertise in scalable back-end engineering and system design.

• Strong understanding of distributed data pipelines, task queues (Celery/RabbitMQ), and high-volume data processing.

• Ability to design flexible database schemas and unified data models that scale as new data types and sources are introduced.

• Experience with data routing and warehouse integration within AWS, with awareness of data privacy and data sovereignty requirements.
